At five days postpartum, here is a look at my where I started. At that point I was not engaging in the 21 Day Fix workouts...I was mostly in survival mode! However, I was taking daily walks, eating mostly clean, and drinking my daily Shakeology.
With those daily walks and incorporating positive nutrition, I already began seeing results but was ready to push a little harder. By 12 days postpartum, I lost 25 lbs (this is what I like to call the Biggest Loser phase of postpartum life when all the initial weight seems to fall off-mostly thanks to all the swelling I had while pregnant). At 12 days postpartum, the first round of 21 Day Fix began.
After the first 21 Day Fix week, I lost 5.2 lbs and 7 inches!! To do this, I followed the daily workout schedule and eating plan. As with all the exercise I did while pregnant, I found it important to listen to my body while exercising. At only a couple of weeks postpartum, there is no way I was able to go all out with the workouts. I primarily followed the woman demonstrating the modified moves and I entirely avoided the ab workouts per my OB's instructions. I was amazed to find just how weak I was even though I exercised throughout my pregnancy!
After week the second week of the 21 Day Fix, I lost another 5.6 lbs and 5.5 inches!! For the second week, I continued in a similar manner to the first week. Slowly, I already noticed my body felt comfortable pushing a little more during the workouts. Again, I mostly modified and totally avoided ab work.
After the third week of the 21 Day Fix, I lost another 2.8 lbs and 3.5 inches!! Steady results week by week just by following the program! This is where the counselor side of me says, "trust the process." In following the workout plan and eating plan, I gained results in just three weeks that took me months after having my first child.
In total for my first round: 13.6 lbs and 16 inches lost!! The physical transformation in such a short amount of time has been incredibly exciting for me. I LOVED my baby belly, but I also love feeling as though I'm returning to myself. Best part of this is that, even with caring for a newborn while taking on this challenge, I've continued to have energy and feel great!
I still have more weight to lose and more strength to regain, but all in due time. I'm looking forward to being officially cleared by my OB to resume exercise with the full intensity that I'm used to. Here's to hoping that happens at my appointment this week!
